The prevailing majority of Russians were against their country seeking membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), a military alliance between 30 countries on the European and American continents signed in 1949, according to the survey conducted in October 2021. In response to several Russian staff members being expelled from NATO over spying, Russia suspended its mission to NATO in the same month.
