The Export-Import Bank of China (Exim Bank) lent a total of 29 billion U.S. dollars into infrastructure projects in Africa between 2008 and 2020. The Chinese governmental institution was by far the leading lender for infrastructure funding in the continent. As a comparison, Japan Bank for Cooperation, which ranked second among mean lenders, granted some 8.5 billion U.S. dollars to infrastructure projects in Africa during the same period.
