As of the end of the fiscal year 2021, one person per 100,000 inhabitants in Japan was forcibly admitted to hospitals as a legal measure for their severe mental illnesses. People in Japan can be legally hospitalized by local authorities when they are examined by more than two doctors and diagnosed with severe and aggressive mental disorders.
