Between 2017 and 2020, the expenditure on prescription drugs in Italy experienced a consistently decreasing trend. In particular, in 2020, the market for prescription drugs experienced a sharp decrease of 2.9 percent in total expenditure, which dropped to around 13.8 billion euros compared to some 14.2 billion euros in the previous year. In 2021, and in the following years, an increase was finally observed. This figure shows the year on year percentage change in expenditure on prescription drugs in Italy from 2016 to 2023.
