In Iceland, the number of employees in adult prisons increased slightly from 2012 to 2021. While there were approximately 100 employees in Icelandic prisons in 2012, the number had increase by almost 20 by 2021. Moreover, while the number of male personnel remained stable, the number of female personnel increased slightly. However, majority of the employees in adult prisons in Iceland remain men.
