While a majority of respondents in all countries included in a 2020 survey agreed they wanted the world to change significantly and become more sustainable and equitable after the COVID-19 crisis, it is notable that the a higher share of respondents agreed with this statement in developing economies. Eight countries had more than 90 percent of respondents agreeing with this statement, all of which could be considered developing economies: Colombia, Russia, Peru, Chile, Mexico, Malaysia, South Africa and Argentina. Conversely, the lowest-scoring countries were Germany and South Korea, with 78 percent and 73 percent respectively. While this suggests that people in developing countries are more keen for change, it may also be the case that this result is a product of sampling bias. The source notes that the survey participants in all of these countries (except Argentina) are "more urban, educated, and/or more affluent than the general population," and therefore cannot be considered representative of the country as a whole.

There were around 1,000 respondents in each country except the following, which had approximately 500 respondents: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Hungary, India, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, and Turkey.
