According to a survey from September 2021, 35 percent of Russians had a positive attitude toward the strategy of 'smart voting'. The strategy was suggested by the opposition politician Alexei Navalny and his team to weaken election results of the ruling party, United Russia. Prior to general and local elections, Navalny's team identified candidates from parties other than United Russia that had the highest chances of winning a mandate and published lists of those candidates for separate regions and districts online. The aim was for those candidates to receive votes from all voters that did not want to vote for the ruling party.
The survey was conducted among rural and urban population in 137 localities in 50 federal subjects of Russia. For a sample of 1,600 persons, with a probability of 0.95, the statistical error does not exceed 3.4% for indicators close to 50%, 2.9% for indicators close to 25%/75%, 2.0% for indicators close to 10%/90%, and 1.5% for indicators close to 5%/95%.
