Expected investments in ship upgrades due to emission regulations 2021
In 2021, around 67 percent of surveyed shipowners and ship operators expected to carry out a conversion of combustion engines or fuel systems in order to comply with new emission regulations. According to these regulations, maritime emissions need to be reduced by at least 40 percent by 2030 and 50 percent by 2050 (compared with 2008). Over one-third of respondents expected to invest both into digital retrofitting and installation or the use of scrubbers.
