In 2022, the main reason for suicide among South Korean men and women was mental illness, which accounted for about 30.9 percent of male and 58.9 percent of female suicide deaths. Together with mental illness, physical illness, and financial problems were the most common reasons for committing suicide among South Koreans that year.
