Russia was estimated to be the leading producer of natural gas-based emissions in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in 2022, at over 1.1 billion short tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂). It was followed by Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan which emitted an estimated 101 million short tons of CO₂ and 97 million short tons of CO₂, respectively.
