As of February 2022, the Meralco Group accounted for the highest share of contestable customers in the Philippines, holding a share of 38 percent. Contestable customers are electricity users who can directly buy power from retail suppliers. Previously, they were required to register, but this mandatory has been removed to widen their participation in the retail market.
