In the year 2015-16, around 70 percent of households had improved, not shared sanitation in India. In the same year, around 36.7 percent of households in rural areas had improved, not shared sanitation. The total share of households with improved, not shared sanitation grew from 29 percent in 2005-06 to 48.4 percent in 2015-16.
