Russian hotels and similar establishments offering temporary travel accommodation earned over 350 billion Russian rubles in 2022. Compared to the previous year, the hotel industry's revenue increased by 23 percent. In 2021, the earnings already exceeded those of the pre-pandemic year 2019.
How many hotels does Russia have?
Russia had nearly 16 thousand hotels and similar travel accommodation establishments in 2022. Of them, hotels accounted for the largest share ofaround 83 percent, followed by hostels and motels. The number of hotels in the country slightly decreased in 2020, as the hospitality industry was negatively impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, in 2021, the hotel count grew by around seven percent.
Hotel resorts in Russia
The Russian hotel industry offered numerous recreation resorts, including sports and spa complexes. The company operating the alpine ski resort Rosa Khutor near Sochi earned the highest revenue among accommodation entities in Russia, at 9.5 billion Russian rubles in 2022. It was followed by Krasnaya Polyana, another year-round resort, located in Sochi. Russia’s spa industry was one of the largest by revenue worldwide, having reached nearly 1.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2020.
