Hurricane Ida, which made landfall on the U.S. Gulf Coast on August 29, 2021, resulted in nearly 100 percent of offshore oil and gas production in the region being halted. On August 29 and August 30, between 93 and 96 percent of oil and gas production in the Gulf of Mexico was shut-in, while all rigs had been evacuated. Three weeks later, operations had resumed, although over one fourth of gas production was still reportedly shut-in.

* The source gives the following information on shut-in production: "The production percentages are calculated using information submitted by offshore operators in daily reports. Shut-in production information included in these reports is based on the amount of oil and gas the operator expected to produce that day. The shut-in production figures therefore are estimates, which BSEE compares to historical production reports to ensure the estimates follow a logical pattern."
