In 2020, the Americas accounted for 29 percent of the global carbon dioxide demand. China followed closely, with a share of 28 percent. Carbon dioxide is used for a variety of applications, including as inert gas in fire-fighting, for carbonating beverages, as well as for cooling and freezing food, among other uses.
