As per the survey results released in July 2021, about 51 percent of China's high net worth individuals stated they need access to global assets with high returns in a survey. In recent years, the Chinese government has put higher restrictions on outward money transfers to curb capital outflows and incentivize domestic investment.
Financial service needs of high net worth individuals (HNWIs) in China as of June 2021
HNWI are persons whose investable assets value at more than 10 million yuan.
The source did not specify the number of respondents in 2021 survey. The number of interviews conducted in previous years ranged between 700 and 3,300 and between 100 and 200 for in-depth interviews. The interviewees mainly included industry experts, relationship managers from private banking and other financial institutions, HNWIs from but not limited to private banking.
