In the fiscal year ended March 31, 2024, West Japan Railway Company (JR West) carried around 81 million passengers on its high-speed Shinkansen trains, increasing from 68 million in the preceding year. Today operated by companies of the Japan Railways Group, the Japanese bullet trains have been renowned worldwide for their reliability regarding speed, punctuality, and safety since the inauguration of the first Shinkansen in 1964.
