According to a 2020 survey of Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency stakeholders, 48 percent of respondents tended to agree with the sentiment that Waka Kotahi transport investments are multi-modal (i.e. they consider the needs of different forms of transport). The Māori name Waka Kotahi is meant to convey the concept of "travelling together as one."
