Between January and March 2021, in Italy, almost 2.4 thousand people reported gender violence and stalking cases to 1522, an official helpline for such instances, but decided not to press charges. In 407 cases, the victim did not want to jeopardize the family. In another 342 instances, fear of the abuser was too strong.
1522 is a phone number set up by the Italian Ministry for Equal Opportunities to help and support gender violence and stalking victims. It is free, anonymous and works 24/7.
