Golden Week consumption growth in China 2020, by type
Despite the negative effects of the coronavirus pandemic, average daily sales during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays in 2020 grew by 4.9 percent compared to the previous year. As travel in general was still down, consumption shifted heavily towards e-commerce. Growing against the trend, travel to Hainan in Southern China increased, with duty-free spending in Hainan more than doubling.
