Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) is a medical approach for preventing HIV after a single possible exposure to the virus. While in 2018, approximately 104,000 PEP treatments took place in Brazil, those who received post-exposure prophylaxis against HIV increased to nearly 169,000 in 2022. In 2021, Brazil stood as the nation with the highest share of HIV cases in Latin America.
