As of April 2021, over 32.5 billion U.S. dollars in investments were needed to fund LKAB's decarbonization project. This initiative from the Sweden-based company was the one requiring the steepest investment, followed by POSCO's project, which required around 8.8 billion U.S. dollars in funding. In 2019, the manufacturing industries and construction represented 15 percent of the total carbon dioxide emissions in the European Union.
