In 2023, more than 1.18 million people relied on food banks in Spain to provide them with food. The highest figure was recorded in 2014, when 1.7 million people needed the assistance of food banks. The COVID-19 pandemic worsened the economic situation of the Mediterranean country, pushing many families into food poverty.
