Panama was estimated to have reached the highest revenue from international tourism in Central America in 2020, at roughly 5.5 billion U.S. dollars. By 2022, this figure is expected to grow by approximately 28 percent. Costa Rica, which ranked second on the list, was forecast to experience a growth in international tourism revenue of nearly eight percent over the same period. In contrast, Nicaragua might record a decline in the total inbound tourism revenue. Between 2019 and 2021, the Global Peace Index score of Nicaragua experienced an increase versus the previous five years, meaning that its level of peacefulness worsened.
