Sotheby's has been the biggest auction house for contemporary art in Hong Kong since 2013. The company recorded a total contemporary art sales of 164.3 million U.S. dollars in 2019, about 70 million U.S. dollars more than its closest contender Christie's. As second-largest contemporary art auction market after New York, Hong Kong contributed roughly a quarter of global auction sales.
