In France, public health campaigns are considered as a means of prevention. These campaigns have primarily an informative purpose, but are also used to show the interest of the public authorities in public health problems. They are also designed to change the public's perception of a topic, and to seek to improve its health behaviors.
These awareness campaigns, when they concern the use of psychoactive substances, are perceived as a legitimate strategy by three quarters of the population, although fewer than 60 percent of respondents claimed to have been convinced by them. Moreover, they seem to be less effective when it comes to convincing people to seek professional help.
