In the European convention and event industry, visitor spending dropped from 91 billion euros in 2019 to roughly 18 billion euros in 2020 due to the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Visitor spending is forecast to remain stable at around 18 billion euros in 2021 but steadily grow in subsequent years, reaching 100 billion euros by 2027.

Supplementary notes
Figures for 2027 have been calculated based on the domestic and international visitor spending provided by the source on page 23.
The source specifies that data refer to a baseline scenario, assuming that "almost all planned events, that in normal circumstances would have been scheduled in the months between January and May, will not take place. From June onwards there will be a slow but steady recovery in events, with small domestic-orientated events leading the way. The recovery of large internationally-focused events in 2021 will be limited".
