In a field survey conducted between November 2016 and March 2017 across eight countries in Africa, it was revealed that 95 percent of Chinese firms found in Nigeria were privately owned, while the rest were owned by the state. In this West African country, a total of 920 Chinese firms were counted in the same period. Moreover, of the 825 firms found in Tanzania, 92 of them had private ownership, while 10 percent had government ownership. According to the source, more than 10,000 businesses could have been operated by the Chinese in the overall Africa region as of the same period.
