More than 30 new coal mines with a capacity of at least one million metric tons per annum were proposed in Russia as of April 2024, with 12 of them being under construction. Three more new coal mines were under construction in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), namely, in Serbia, North Macedonia, and Romania.
