New coal mines with a total capacity of 137 million metric tons per year were proposed in Russia as of April 2024. Of them, mines with an annual capacity of 48 million metric tons were under construction. Furthermore, new coal mines with lower capacities were in the course of construction in Serbia, North Macedonia, and Romania.
