Approximately two thirds of Russians followed news about the political conflict in Afghanistan in August 2021, according to the survey. The Taliban, which retook power in Afghanistan after being removed by a U.S.-led coalition 20 years ago, is banned in Russia and included in the country's list of terrorist organizations.
