Canada is the country with the greatest increase in public financial support for fossil fuels. Between 2016 and 2020, the Canadian government's support for the oil, natural gas, and coal industries increased by 177 percent. By comparison, Mexico noted a 47 percent decline in such financial investments within the same time period. In 2020, China had spent the most on public fossil fuel support of any country.
