The first death caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Finland was reported on March 20, 2020. The number of deaths per day related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) decreased slightly over time and stayed between zero to one per day in the summer of 2020. As of December 8, 2022, 124 deaths were reported, and the cumulative number of deaths has increased to a total of 7,572.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country reached 1,417,909 on December 8, 2022.

The source adds the following information: Starting from June 30, 2021, THL changed how statistics on deaths linked to coronavirus are gathered. Previously, the figures were reported by hospital districts, but will in future come from the Infectious Diseases Registry. Due to this change in how deaths are reported, the figure on June 30, 2021 appeared to increase by four deaths compared to the previous week's total, when in fact only one death linked to the virus had been reported over the previous seven days.
The significant increase on April 21, 2020 was due to HUS reporting previous deaths in elder care units on this day.
No data available during the summer break from July 14 to August 08, 2022, because of the summer break of the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL).
