The Chinese company China BBCA Group has plans to increase its production capacity for polylactic acid (PLA) from 50,000 metric tons as of August 2020, to 700,000 metric tons by 2023. The company's planned production capacity in 2023 would likely be nearly double the actual anticipated global demand volume for that year, which is estimated to be 370,000 metric tons. The total global demand for PLA in 2019 was under 200,000 metric tons.
