Distribution of media used for international patent applications 2021

65 percent of PCT applications were in a PDF in 2021, up from just under 44 percent a decade earlier. This change reflects a significant decrease in methods using paper, including discontinuing the PCT-Easy method. In 2021, international patent applications were almost all submitted electronically. Only 1.3 percent of applications were filed using paper.
