As of 2021, most online cosmetics stores in Russia were registered in Moscow and the Moscow Oblast. Only 13 percent of such stores were based in the second-largest city in the country - Saint Petersburg.

The study included 48 online stores of beauty category (specializing in retail of decorative and self-care cosmetics, perfumes, products for manicure and pedicure masters, and make-up artists) listed in the 1,000 largest Russian online stores by orders volume, four online stores of network marketing companies, and two largest universal marketplaces - Wildberries and Ozon.
Only online sales of cosmetics in the Russian territory were taken into consideration (excluding export sales).
