As of 2021, approximately 39 percent of those living with chronic pain in Italy reported that did not make an appointment or canceled their appointment with a doctor because they were afraid to go to the hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, 19 percent of chronic pain sufferers in Spain did not make an appointment because they felt they did not want to tire them with further problems during the pandemic.
