Impact of COVID-19 on outbound travel plans in Japan 2020-2023, by month
According to a survey conducted in Japan in May 2023, about 43.3 percent of people stated that they were able to travel as initially planned abroad, while 34.3 percent stated that they had to cancel their trip due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This was the first time during the past three years that the share of people who were able to travel overseas as initially planned was higher than the share of people who cancelled their planned trips.
