Venture capital firms in Hungary 2022, by number of investments

Venture capital firms play an important role in shaping Hungary’s startup landscape. As of 2022, Hiventures, a government-supported venture capital company was the leading firm in the country, with over 750 investments. PortfoLion came second in the ranking, recording 49 investments.

Startup financing

According to the findings of a study conducted among Hungarian startups in 2021, the majority of the companies raised money exclusively from local sources, measuring at over 60 percent of the enterprises, while a further 27 percent of the startups raised money both locally and internationally. Moreover, 70 percent of the companies receiving local venture capital investments benefited only from state funds.

Business accelerators and incubators in Hungary

Startup accelerators are programs providing developing companies with mentorship, educational components, and sponsors. While business incubators are usually publicly funded, take no equity, and do not offer funding to companies, startup accelerators cover a variety of verticals and can be privately or publicly funded. In 2022, OXO Labs was the leading startup accelerator in Hungary based on the number of investments. As for business incubators, Drukka Startup Studio had recorded the highest number of investments until the last quarter of 2022.
