Among those Spanish respondents, who believed that the law against gender based violence in 2020 was not enough to fight the problem, approximately 40 percent claimed that sentences and laws should become more stringent. Around 16 percent asserted that more protection should be given to women. According to the Spanish Ministry of Equality, of the 55 women killed due to gender violence in Spain the previous year, 20 percent had reported the aggressor, down from 29 percent in 2018.
