Between January and March 2021 in Italy, about 4,300 cases of gender violence were reported by call to 1522, a gender violence and stalking helpline. Over the period spanning from the beginning of 2020 to March 2021, the most cases were reported between April and June 2020, with more than 5,600. During the 15 months under consideration, the vast majority of such abuses were committed by men.
1522 is a phone number set up by the Italian Ministry for Equal Opportunities to help and support gender violence and stalking victims. It is free, anonymous, and works 24/7.
