Abstention rate for regional elections in France 1986-2021
It has now been 35 years since the French were called upon to designate their regional councilors, following the Defferre laws of 1982 on decentralization. However, as the following figures illustrate, abstention has tended to increase since 1986. In the first round of regional elections on June 20, 21, abstention reached a record high: 66.7 percent of registered voters did not turn out.
