In 2020 - the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic - social media advertising spending in Europe grew 16 percent over the values reported a year earlier. In 2021, the growth rate increased to 42.2 percent. In 2022, the same growth rate dropped to seven percent, only to pick up again to over 18 percent in 2023.

In 2021, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania were added. Their combined digital advertising revenue stood at 339 million euros. Data for the timeline which includes Russia and Belarus was retrieved from an earlier publication.
