Of the 40 surveyed artisans who sought to obtain credit from banks in Morocco during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, 60 percent were refused this request for the reason that they were not eligible. Moreover, 10 percent of the refusals were workers who had issues pertaining to their balance sheets in the previous year. According to the same survey, nearly half of the craftsmen sought support from the Banque Populaire in Morocco. Overall in the country, close to 1.4 million people were employed in the crafts industry as of 2018.
