In the first half of 2021, carbonated beverages experienced the most significant decline in soft drink sales volume (-20 percent). Only energy drinks recorded a seven percent increase. The cause of the decrease in sales volume is the sugar tax introduction, which covers soft drinks with added sugars, sweeteners, and caffeine or taurine.
