Metro rolling stock was in highest demand in Southeast Asia in 2019, the region accounting for some 36 percent of the global market. North America and Europe were the next most prominent markets, at 23 and 21 percent of worldwide metro deliveries, respectively. A few years earlier in 2015, the Shanghai Metro and Beijing Subway ranked second and third as the subway systems with the most stations, behind New York.
