As of 2022, around 4 in 10 adults under 64 years of age had any medical bill problems or debt. This rose to 60 percent for all adults among those without insurance or those underinsured. Underinsured is defined as those with such high out-of-pocket expenses or deductibles they were effectively underinsured.
