In 2021, popular South Korean K-pop boy group EXO sold around 1.5 million albums. They slowed down on group promotions starting in 2019 due to members beginning to enlist for their mandatory military service, instead focusing on solo activities, leading to a decline in album sales. As of 2021, despite several members still serving, group promotions have been taken up again, leading to an increase in sales as new music is released.
