According to a survey among China's lower-tier consumers in August 2020, around 65.1 percent of respondents purchased food and daily necessities in supermarkets. In comparison, about 28.3 percent of respondents said they bought FMCG in convenience stores, such as 7-Eleven.

Lower-tier cities here refer to tier-3 cities and below.
The survey was conducted among 54.96 percent male respondents and 45.04 percent female respondents. More than 90 percent of the respondents aged between 21 and 50 years.
Around 75.72 percent of respondents received secondary education or below. Around 75.12 percent of respondents earned monthly salary of 5,000 yuan or below.
One yuan is equal to 0.15 U.S. dollars and 0.13 euros (as of July 2021).
