Share of people working from home in Italy 2021, by size of the company

The COVID-19 pandemic, which first hit Italy in late February 2020, had a massive impact on life in the country. The measures adopted by the Italian government to control the contagion pushed many businesses to stop or radically scale down their activities. According to a recent survey, around 7.3 million people were working from home as of April 2021, corresponding to 31.6 percent of the total working population in Italy. When taking into account only companies employing more than 250 individuals, however, this figure jumped to 43.4 percent. On the other hand, only 14.3 percent of employees in very small companies were working from home.
